سُورَةُ فُصِّلَت41. Signs Spelled Out
41:47
إِلَيۡهِ يُرَدُّ عِلۡمُ ٱلسَّاعَةِۚ وَمَا تَخۡرُجُ مِن ثَمَرَٰتٖ مِّنۡ أَكۡمَامِهَا وَمَا تَحۡمِلُ مِنۡ أُنثَىٰ وَلَا تَضَعُ إِلَّا بِعِلۡمِهِۦۚ وَيَوۡمَ يُنَادِيهِمۡ أَيۡنَ شُرَكَآءِي قَالُوٓاْ ءَاذَنَّٰكَ مَا مِنَّا مِن شَهِيدٖ ٤٧
To Him is referred the Knowledge of the Hour.[He knows all]: No fruit comes out of its sheath, nor does a female conceive [in her womb] nor bring forth [its young] but by His Knowledge. The Day that [Allāh] will call out to them: “Where are the Partners [you attributed] to Me?” They will say, “We declare it to You that none of us can bear witness!”
41:48
وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَدۡعُونَ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَظَنُّواْ مَا لَهُم مِّن مَّحِيصٖ ٤٨
The [deities] they used to invoke aforetime will leave them in the lurch, and they will perceive that they have no place of refuge.
41:49
لَّا يَسۡـَٔمُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مِن دُعَآءِ ٱلۡخَيۡرِ وَإِن مَّسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ فَيَـُٔوسٞ قَنُوطٞ ٤٩
Man does not weary of asking for good [things], but if ill touches him, he gives up all hope [and] is lost in despair.
41:50
وَلَئِنۡ أَذَقۡنَٰهُ رَحۡمَةٗ مِّنَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ضَرَّآءَ مَسَّتۡهُ لَيَقُولَنَّ هَٰذَا لِي وَمَآ أَظُنُّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَآئِمَةٗ وَلَئِن رُّجِعۡتُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّيٓ إِنَّ لِي عِندَهُۥ لَلۡحُسۡنَىٰۚ فَلَنُنَبِّئَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِمَا عَمِلُواْ وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم مِّنۡ عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٖ ٥٠
If We give him a taste of some mercy from Us after some adversity has touched him, he is sure to say, “This is due to my [merit]: I think not that the Hour [of Judgement] will [ever] be established; but if I am brought back to my Lord, I have [much] good [stored] in His sight!” But We will certainly show the Rejecters the truth of all that they did, and We shall give them the taste of a Punishment most painful.
41:51
وَإِذَآ أَنۡعَمۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡإِنسَٰنِ أَعۡرَضَ وَنَـَٔا بِجَانِبِهِۦ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ فَذُو دُعَآءٍ عَرِيضٖ ٥١
When We bestow favours on Man, he turns away, and gets farther [instead of coming closer to Us]; and when evil touches him, [he becomes] full of prolonged prayer!
41:52
قُلۡ أَرَءَيۡتُمۡ إِن كَانَ مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ كَفَرۡتُم بِهِۦ مَنۡ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنۡ هُوَ فِي شِقَاقِۭ بَعِيدٖ ٥٢
Say [O Prophet]: “See you if the [Revelation] is [really] from Allāh, and yet you do reject it? Who is more astray than one who is in a schism far [from the Right Path]?”
41:53
سَنُرِيهِمۡ ءَايَٰتِنَا فِي ٱلۡأٓفَاقِ وَفِيٓ أَنفُسِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمۡ أَنَّهُ ٱلۡحَقُّۗ أَوَلَمۡ يَكۡفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ شَهِيدٌ ٥٣
Soon will We show them our Signs in the [furthest] regions [of the Universe], and in their own selves, until it becomes manifest to them that this is the Truth.Is it not enough that your Sustainer does witness all things?
41:54
أَلَآ إِنَّهُمۡ فِي مِرۡيَةٖ مِّن لِّقَآءِ رَبِّهِمۡۗ أَلَآ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٖ مُّحِيطُۢ ٥٤
Ah indeed! They are in doubt concerning the meeting with their Lord! Ah indeed! It is He that ever-encompasses round all things!
سُورَةُ الشُّورَىٰ42. The Consultation
42:1
حمٓ ١
Ḥā. Mīm;
42:2
عٓسٓقٓ ٢
‘Ayn. Sīn. Qāf.
42:3
كَذَٰلِكَ يُوحِيٓ إِلَيۡكَ وَإِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِكَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ ٣
Thus does [He] send revelation to you as [He did] to those before you — [He is] Allāh, the Mighty, the Most-Wise.
42:4
لَهُۥ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَلِيُّ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ ٤
To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and in earth: and He is the Most-High, the Supreme [in Glory].
42:5
تَكَادُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ يَتَفَطَّرۡنَ مِن فَوۡقِهِنَّۚ وَٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَيَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ لِمَن فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ٥
The heavens are almost rent asunder from above them [by His Glory]:and the angels celebrate the Praises of their Lord, and pray for forgiveness for all beings on earth: Behold! Verily, Allāh is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most-Merciful.
42:6
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوۡلِيَآءَ ٱللَّهُ حَفِيظٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيۡهِم بِوَكِيلٖ ٦
And those who take as guardians others besides Him, Allāh does watch over them; and you are not a guardian over them.
42:7
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ قُرۡءَانًا عَرَبِيّٗا لِّتُنذِرَ أُمَّ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ وَمَنۡ حَوۡلَهَا وَتُنذِرَ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡجَمۡعِ لَا رَيۡبَ فِيهِۚ فَرِيقٞ فِي ٱلۡجَنَّةِ وَفَرِيقٞ فِي ٱلسَّعِيرِ ٧
Thus have We revealed to you an Arabic Qur’ān: that you may warn the Mother of the Townsand those around it, and warn [them] of the Day of Assembly,of which there is no doubt: [When] some [will go] to Paradise, and some to the Blazing Fire.
42:8
وَلَوۡ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَعَلَهُمۡ أُمَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ وَلَٰكِن يُدۡخِلُ مَن يَشَآءُ فِي رَحۡمَتِهِۦۚ وَٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ مَا لَهُم مِّن وَلِيّٖ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ ٨
If Allāh had so willed, He could have made them [all] a single people; but He admits whom He will to His Mercy; and the wrongdoers will have no guardian nor helper.
42:9
أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوۡلِيَآءَۖ فَٱللَّهُ هُوَ ٱلۡوَلِيُّ وَهُوَ يُحۡيِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٞ ٩
What! Have they taken guardians besides Him? Allāh alone is the Guardian, and it is He who brings the dead back to life: It is He who has [absolute] power over all things.
42:10
وَمَا ٱخۡتَلَفۡتُمۡ فِيهِ مِن شَيۡءٖ فَحُكۡمُهُۥٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبِّي عَلَيۡهِ تَوَكَّلۡتُ وَإِلَيۡهِ أُنِيبُ ١٠
Whatever it be wherein you differ, the [final] decision thereof is left to Allāh: Such is Allāh my Sustainer: In Him I trust, and to Him I turn [in repentance].
42:11
فَاطِرُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنۡ أَنفُسِكُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗاۖ وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمِ أَزۡوَٰجٗا يَذۡرَؤُكُمۡ فِيهِۚ لَيۡسَ كَمِثۡلِهِۦ شَيۡءٞۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡبَصِيرُ ١١
[He is] the Creator of the heavens and the earth: He has made for you pairs from among yourselves, and pairs among cattle:by this means does He multiply [and spread] you. There is nothing whatever like Him, And He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
42:12
لَهُۥ مَقَالِيدُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ يَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقۡدِرُۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٍ عَلِيمٞ ١٢
To Him belong the levers of the heavens and the earth: He enlarges and restricts the Sustenance to whom He will: for He knows full well all things.
42:13
شَرَعَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلدِّينِ مَا وَصَّىٰ بِهِۦ نُوحٗا وَٱلَّذِيٓ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ وَمَا وَصَّيۡنَا بِهِۦٓ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰٓۖ أَنۡ أَقِيمُواْ ٱلدِّينَ وَلَا تَتَفَرَّقُواْ فِيهِۚ كَبُرَ عَلَى ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ مَا تَدۡعُوهُمۡ إِلَيۡهِۚ ٱللَّهُ يَجۡتَبِيٓ إِلَيۡهِ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهۡدِيٓ إِلَيۡهِ مَن يُنِيبُ ١٣
The Religion has He established for you is that which He enjoined on Nūḥ, which We have revealed to you, and that which We enjoined on Ibrāhīm,Mūsā,and ͑Isā, namely that you should establish Religion and differ not about it.To the polytheists hard is the [way] to which you call them. Allāh chooses to Himself whom He pleases, and guides to Himself those who turn [to Him in repentance].
42:14
وَمَا تَفَرَّقُوٓاْ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡعِلۡمُ بَغۡيَۢا بَيۡنَهُمۡۚ وَلَوۡلَا كَلِمَةٞ سَبَقَتۡ مِن رَّبِّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٖ مُّسَمّٗى لَّقُضِيَ بَيۡنَهُمۡۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أُورِثُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ لَفِي شَكّٖ مِّنۡهُ مُرِيبٖ ١٤
And they differed not but only after [divine] Knowledge had reached them, transgressing against one another. Had it not been for a Word that went forth before from your Lord, [tending] to a Term appointed, the matter would have been settled between them: But truly those who were made inheritors of the Book after them are in suspicious [disquieting] doubt concerning it.
42:15
فَلِذَٰلِكَ فَٱدۡعُۖ وَٱسۡتَقِمۡ كَمَآ أُمِرۡتَۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعۡ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡۖ وَقُلۡ ءَامَنتُ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِن كِتَٰبٖۖ وَأُمِرۡتُ لِأَعۡدِلَ بَيۡنَكُمُۖ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكُمۡۖ لَنَآ أَعۡمَٰلُنَا وَلَكُمۡ أَعۡمَٰلُكُمۡۖ لَا حُجَّةَ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمُۖ ٱللَّهُ يَجۡمَعُ بَيۡنَنَاۖ وَإِلَيۡهِ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ ١٥
Now then, for that [reason], call [them to the Faith], and stand steadfast as you are commanded, and follow not their whims; but say: “I believe in the Book Allāh has sent down; and I am commanded to judge justly between you. Allāh is our Sustainer and your Sustainer! We are accountable for our deeds, and you for yours. There is no contention between us and you. Allāh will bring us together, and to Him is [our] final return.”
42:16
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُحَآجُّونَ فِي ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا ٱسۡتُجِيبَ لَهُۥ حُجَّتُهُمۡ دَاحِضَةٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ وَعَلَيۡهِمۡ غَضَبٞ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ شَدِيدٌ ١٦
And those who dispute concerning Allāh after His [Message] has been accepted;futile is their argument in the sight of their Sustainer: On them is Wrath, and for them will be a Punishment terrible.
42:17
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَنزَلَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَٱلۡمِيزَانَۗ وَمَا يُدۡرِيكَ لَعَلَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَرِيبٞ ١٧
It is Allāh who has sent down the Book in Truth, and [sent down] the Balance.And what will make you realise that perhaps the Houris closer at hand?
42:18
يَسۡتَعۡجِلُ بِهَا ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهَاۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مُشۡفِقُونَ مِنۡهَا وَيَعۡلَمُونَ أَنَّهَا ٱلۡحَقُّۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُمَارُونَ فِي ٱلسَّاعَةِ لَفِي ضَلَٰلِۭ بَعِيدٍ ١٨
Only those wish to hasten it [The Hour] who believe not in it, [but] those who believe hold it in awe, and know that it is the Truth. Behold, verily those who dispute concerning the Hour are far astray.
42:19
ٱللَّهُ لَطِيفُۢ بِعِبَادِهِۦ يَرۡزُقُ مَن يَشَآءُۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡقَوِيُّ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ١٩
Gracious is Allāh to His servants:He gives Sustenance to whom He pleases: and He is the Mighty, the All-Powerful.
42:20
مَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرۡثَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ نَزِدۡ لَهُۥ فِي حَرۡثِهِۦۖ وَمَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرۡثَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا نُؤۡتِهِۦ مِنۡهَا وَمَا لَهُۥ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ مِن نَّصِيبٍ ٢٠
To any that desires the tilth of the Hereafter, We increase in his tilth; and to any that desires the tilth of this world [only], We grant him somewhat thereof, but he has no share in the Hereafter.
42:21
أَمۡ لَهُمۡ شُرَكَٰٓؤُاْ شَرَعُواْ لَهُم مِّنَ ٱلدِّينِ مَا لَمۡ يَأۡذَنۢ بِهِ ٱللَّهُۚ وَلَوۡلَا كَلِمَةُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ لَقُضِيَ بَيۡنَهُمۡۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ ٢١
What! Have they partners [in godhood] who have established for them some [other] Religion without the permission of Allāh? Had it not been for the Decree of Judgement,the matter would have been decided between them [at once]. But verily the wrongdoers will have a painful Punishment.
42:22
تَرَى ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ مُشۡفِقِينَ مِمَّا كَسَبُواْ وَهُوَ وَاقِعُۢ بِهِمۡۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ فِي رَوۡضَاتِ ٱلۡجَنَّاتِۖ لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَضۡلُ ٱلۡكَبِيرُ ٢٢
You will see the wrongdoers in fear on account of what they earned, and [the burden of] that must [necessarily] fall on them. [But] those who believed and worked righteous deeds will be in the meadows of Gardens: they shall have with their Lord all that they wish for. That indeed will be the great Bounty [of Allāh].
42:23
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يُبَشِّرُ ٱللَّهُ عِبَادَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِۗ قُل لَّآ أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ أَجۡرًا إِلَّا ٱلۡمَوَدَّةَ فِي ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰۗ وَمَن يَقۡتَرِفۡ حَسَنَةٗ نَّزِدۡ لَهُۥ فِيهَا حُسۡنًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ شَكُورٌ ٢٣
That is [the Bounty]: whereof Allāh gives Glad Tidings to His servants who believe and do righteous deeds. Say: “No remuneration do I ask of you for this except the love of those near of [my] kin.”And if anyone earns any good, We shall give Him an increase of good in respect thereof: for Allāh is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Thankful [to appreciate the good deeds of His servants].
42:24
أَمۡ يَقُولُونَ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبٗاۖ فَإِن يَشَإِ ٱللَّهُ يَخۡتِمۡ عَلَىٰ قَلۡبِكَۗ وَيَمۡحُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡبَٰطِلَ وَيُحِقُّ ٱلۡحَقَّ بِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦٓۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمُۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ ٢٤
What! Do they say, “He has forged a lie against Allāh”? If Allāh willed, He could seal up your heart.And Allāh blots out falsehood, and proves the Truth by His Words. For He knows well the secrets of the hearts.
42:25
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي يَقۡبَلُ ٱلتَّوۡبَةَ عَنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَعۡفُواْ عَنِ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ وَيَعۡلَمُ مَا تَفۡعَلُونَ ٢٥
He is the One who accepts repentance from His servants and forgives [their] sins: And He knows [all] that you do.
42:26
وَيَسۡتَجِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَيَزِيدُهُم مِّن فَضۡلِهِۦۚ وَٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ شَدِيدٞ ٢٦
And He answers [the prayers of] those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, and increases His Bounty for them: but for the Rejecters there is a terrible Punishment.
42:27
وَلَوۡ بَسَطَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِعِبَادِهِۦ لَبَغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَٰكِن يُنَزِّلُ بِقَدَرٖ مَّا يَشَآءُۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِعِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرُۢ بَصِيرٞ ٢٧
If Allāh were to enlarge the provision for His servants, they would indeed transgress [beyond bounds] through the earth; but He sends [it] down in due measure as He pleases. For He is All-Knowing of His servants, All-Seeing.
42:28
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي يُنَزِّلُ ٱلۡغَيۡثَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا قَنَطُواْ وَيَنشُرُ رَحۡمَتَهُۥۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡوَلِيُّ ٱلۡحَمِيدُ ٢٨
He is the One who sends down rain [even] after [people] give up all hope, and scatters His Mercy [far and wide]. And He is the Guardian, Worthy-of-All-Praise.
42:29
وَمِنۡ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ خَلۡقُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَثَّ فِيهِمَا مِن دَآبَّةٖۚ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ جَمۡعِهِمۡ إِذَا يَشَآءُ قَدِيرٞ ٢٩
And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the [living] creatures that He has scattered through them: and He has [absolute] power to gather them together whenever He wills.
42:30
وَمَآ أَصَٰبَكُم مِّن مُّصِيبَةٖ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتۡ أَيۡدِيكُمۡ وَيَعۡفُواْ عَن كَثِيرٖ ٣٠
Whatever misfortune afflicts you is because of what your hands have earned, and for many [a sin] He grants forgiveness.
42:31
وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُعۡجِزِينَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِيّٖ وَلَا نَصِيرٖ ٣١
Nor can you frustrate [Allāh] through the earth; nor do you have, besides Allāh, anyone as guardian or helper.
42:32
وَمِنۡ ءَايَٰتِهِ ٱلۡجَوَارِ فِي ٱلۡبَحۡرِ كَٱلۡأَعۡلَٰمِ ٣٢
And among His Signs are the ships, smooth-running through the sea, [tall] as mountains.
42:33
إِن يَشَأۡ يُسۡكِنِ ٱلرِّيحَ فَيَظۡلَلۡنَ رَوَاكِدَ عَلَىٰ ظَهۡرِهِۦٓۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٖ شَكُورٍ ٣٣
If it be His Will, He can still the winds: so would they become motionless on the back [of the sea]. Verily, in this are Signs for everyone who patiently perseveres and is grateful.
42:34
أَوۡ يُوبِقۡهُنَّ بِمَا كَسَبُواْ وَيَعۡفُ عَن كَثِيرٖ ٣٤
Or He can cause them to perish because of the [evil] which [people] have earned; [but] much does He forgive.
42:35
وَيَعۡلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَٰدِلُونَ فِيٓ ءَايَٰتِنَا مَا لَهُم مِّن مَّحِيصٖ ٣٥
And [let] those, who dispute about Our Signs, know that there is for them no place of refuge.
42:36
فَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّن شَيۡءٖ فَمَتَٰعُ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَاۖ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيۡرٞ وَأَبۡقَىٰ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ ٣٦
Whatever you are given [here] is [only for] the enjoyment of the worldly life: but that which is with Allāh is better and more lasting: [It is] for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord:
42:37
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَٰٓئِرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَٰحِشَ وَإِذَا مَا غَضِبُواْ هُمۡ يَغۡفِرُونَ ٣٧
those who avoid the Major Sinsand indecencies and, who forgive even if they get angry;
42:38
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَجَابُواْ لِرَبِّهِمۡ وَأَقَامُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَمۡرُهُمۡ شُورَىٰ بَيۡنَهُمۡ وَمِمَّا رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ يُنفِقُونَ ٣٨
those who respond to their Sustainer, and establish [regular] Prayer; who [conduct] their affairs by mutual consultation; who spend out of what We have bestowed on them for Sustenance;
42:39
وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَابَهُمُ ٱلۡبَغۡيُ هُمۡ يَنتَصِرُونَ ٣٩
And those who, when oppressionis inflicted on them, [are not cowed down but] help [each other] and defend themselves.
42:40
وَجَزَٰٓؤُاْ سَيِّئَةٖ سَيِّئَةٞ مِّثۡلُهَاۖ فَمَنۡ عَفَا وَأَصۡلَحَ فَأَجۡرُهُۥ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٤٠
The requital for an offence is an offence equal thereto [in degree]:but if one forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due with Allāh: for [Allāh] loves not those who are wrongdoers.
42:41
وَلَمَنِ ٱنتَصَرَ بَعۡدَ ظُلۡمِهِۦ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ مَا عَلَيۡهِم مِّن سَبِيلٍ ٤١
But, indeed, if any defends himself after a wrong is [inflicted] on him, against such [a person] there is no cause of blame.
42:42
إِنَّمَا ٱلسَّبِيلُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَظۡلِمُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ وَيَبۡغُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بِغَيۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ ٤٢
The blame is only against those who oppress people with wrongdoing and insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land, without right [and justice]: for such [people] there will be a Punishment painful.
42:43
وَلَمَن صَبَرَ وَغَفَرَ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمِنۡ عَزۡمِ ٱلۡأُمُورِ ٤٣
[But] indeed if any endure patiently and forgive, that truly is an affair of great resolution.
42:44
وَمَن يُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن وَلِيّٖ مِّنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦۗ وَتَرَى ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ لَمَّا رَأَوُاْ ٱلۡعَذَابَ يَقُولُونَ هَلۡ إِلَىٰ مَرَدّٖ مِّن سَبِيلٖ ٤٤
For any whom Allāh leaves astray, there is no guardian thereafter. And you will see the wrongdoers, when they see the Punishment, say: “Is there any way [to effect] a return [to the world]?”
42:45
وَتَرَىٰهُمۡ يُعۡرَضُونَ عَلَيۡهَا خَٰشِعِينَ مِنَ ٱلذُّلِّ يَنظُرُونَ مِن طَرۡفٍ خَفِيّٖۗ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِنَّ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَأَهۡلِيهِمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ فِي عَذَابٖ مُّقِيمٖ ٤٥
And you will see them brought forward to [the Punishment], abject in humbleness [and] looking with a stealthy glance. And the Believers will say: “Those are indeed in loss who lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Behold! Truly the wrongdoers are in an ever-lasting Punishment!”
42:46
وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّنۡ أَوۡلِيَآءَ يَنصُرُونَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَمَن يُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن سَبِيلٍ ٤٦
And no protectors shall they have to help them against Allāh. And for any whom Allāh leaves astray, there is no way [to the Goal].
42:47
ٱسۡتَجِيبُواْ لِرَبِّكُم مِّن قَبۡلِ أَن يَأۡتِيَ يَوۡمٞ لَّا مَرَدَّ لَهُۥ مِنَ ٱللَّهِۚ مَا لَكُم مِّن مَّلۡجَإٖ يَوۡمَئِذٖ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن نَّكِيرٖ ٤٧
Respond to your Lord before there comes a Day which there will be no putting back, because of [the ordainment of] Allāh! That Day there will be for you no place of refuge, nor will there be for you any room for denial [of your sins]!
42:48
فَإِنۡ أَعۡرَضُواْ فَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَٰكَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَفِيظًاۖ إِنۡ عَلَيۡكَ إِلَّا ٱلۡبَلَٰغُۗ وَإِنَّآ إِذَآ أَذَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنَّا رَحۡمَةٗ فَرِحَ بِهَاۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡهُمۡ سَيِّئَةُۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَيۡدِيهِمۡ فَإِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ كَفُورٞ ٤٨
If [then] they turn away, [know that] We have not sent you as a guard over them. Your duty is but to convey [the Message]. And truly, when We give Man a taste of a Mercy from Us, he does exult thereat, but when some ill touches them, on account of the deeds which their hands have sent forth, truly Man is ungrateful!
42:49
لِّلَّهِ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ يَخۡلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُۚ يَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ إِنَٰثٗا وَيَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ ٱلذُّكُورَ ٤٩
To Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He bestows female [children] to whom He wills, and males to whom He wills,
42:50
أَوۡ يُزَوِّجُهُمۡ ذُكۡرَانٗا وَإِنَٰثٗاۖ وَيَجۡعَلُ مَن يَشَآءُ عَقِيمًاۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٞ قَدِيرٞ ٥٠
or He bestows both males and females [to some], and He leaves barren whom He wills: For He is All-Knowing, All-Powerful.
42:51
وَمَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَن يُكَلِّمَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا وَحۡيًا أَوۡ مِن وَرَآيِٕ حِجَابٍ أَوۡ يُرۡسِلَ رَسُولٗا فَيُوحِيَ بِإِذۡنِهِۦ مَا يَشَآءُۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٞ ٥١
It is not fitting for a human being that Allāh should speak to him except by revelation, or from behind a veil, or by sending a Messenger to reveal, with Allāh’s permission, what Allāh wills. Surely, He is Most-High, Most-Wise.
42:52
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ رُوحٗا مِّنۡ أَمۡرِنَاۚ مَا كُنتَ تَدۡرِي مَا ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ وَلَا ٱلۡإِيمَٰنُ وَلَٰكِن جَعَلۡنَٰهُ نُورٗا نَّهۡدِي بِهِۦ مَن نَّشَآءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَاۚ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَهۡدِيٓ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ ٥٢
And thus have We revealed to you Our Message:You knew not [before] what was the Scripture, or what was Faith; but We have made it [the Qur’ān] a Light, wherewith We guide such of Our servantsas We will; and verily you do guide [people] to the Straight Path,
42:53
صِرَٰطِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِي لَهُۥ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ أَلَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَصِيرُ ٱلۡأُمُورُ ٥٣
the Path of Allāh, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. Behold! All affairs finally return to Allāh.
سُورَةُ الزُّخۡرُفِ43. Ornaments of Luxury
43:1
حمٓ ١
Ḥā-Mīm.
43:2
وَٱلۡكِتَٰبِ ٱلۡمُبِينِ ٢
By the Book [the Qur’ān] that makes things clear,
43:3
إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَٰهُ قُرۡءَٰنًا عَرَبِيّٗا لَّعَلَّكُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ ٣
We have made it an Arabic Qur’ān,that you may be able to understand.
43:4
وَإِنَّهُۥ فِيٓ أُمِّ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ لَدَيۡنَا لَعَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٌ ٤
And, verily, it is [preserved] in the Mother of the Book, with Us, lofty [in dignity], full-of-wisdom.
43:5
أَفَنَضۡرِبُ عَنكُمُ ٱلذِّكۡرَ صَفۡحًا أَن كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمٗا مُّسۡرِفِينَ ٥
Shall We then turn away the Reminder from you altogether, for that you are a people exceeding [just] limits?
43:6
وَكَمۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن نَّبِيّٖ فِي ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ٦
How many were the Prophets We sent amongst the people of old?
43:7
وَمَا يَأۡتِيهِم مِّن نَّبِيٍّ إِلَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ٧
And never came there a Prophet to them but they mocked him.
43:8
فَأَهۡلَكۡنَآ أَشَدَّ مِنۡهُم بَطۡشٗا وَمَضَىٰ مَثَلُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ٨
So, We destroyed people stronger in power than these [the present Rejecters]; and [thus] has passed on the example of the people of old.
43:9
وَلَئِن سَأَلۡتَهُم مَّنۡ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ خَلَقَهُنَّ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٩
If you were to question them, “Who created the heavens and the earth?” They would be sure to say, “They were created by [Him], the Mighty, the All-Knowing”;
43:10
ٱلَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَهۡدٗا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمۡ فِيهَا سُبُلٗا لَّعَلَّكُمۡ تَهۡتَدُونَ ١٠
[Yes, the same God] who made for you the earth as an expanse [cradle], and has made for you paths therein, in order that you may find guidance [on the way];
43:11
وَٱلَّذِي نَزَّلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءَۢ بِقَدَرٖ فَأَنشَرۡنَا بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةٗ مَّيۡتٗاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ تُخۡرَجُونَ ١١
who sends down [from time to time] rain from the sky in due measure; and We raise to life therewith a land that was dead; likewise will you be raised [from the dead];
43:12
وَٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ ٱلۡأَزۡوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡفُلۡكِ وَٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمِ مَا تَرۡكَبُونَ ١٢
who has created pairs in all things,and has made for you ships and cattle on which you ride,
43:13
لِتَسۡتَوُۥاْ عَلَىٰ ظُهُورِهِۦ ثُمَّ تَذۡكُرُواْ نِعۡمَةَ رَبِّكُمۡ إِذَا ٱسۡتَوَيۡتُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ وَتَقُولُواْ سُبۡحَٰنَ ٱلَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُۥ مُقۡرِنِينَ ١٣
in order that you may sit firm and square on their backs, and when so seated, you may remember the [kind] favour of your Sustainer, and say, “Glory to Him who has subjected these to our [use], for we could never be able to do it,
43:14
وَإِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ ١٤
“and to our Lord, surely, we will return!”
43:15
وَجَعَلُواْ لَهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ جُزۡءًاۚ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَكَفُورٞ مُّبِينٌ ١٥
Yet they attribute to some of His servants a share with Him [in divinity]. Truly is Man clearly ungrateful.
43:16
أَمِ ٱتَّخَذَ مِمَّا يَخۡلُقُ بَنَاتٖ وَأَصۡفَىٰكُم بِٱلۡبَنِينَ ١٦
What! Has He taken daughters out of what He Himself creates, and granted to you sons for a choice?
43:17
وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِمَا ضَرَبَ لِلرَّحۡمَٰنِ مَثَلٗا ظَلَّ وَجۡهُهُۥ مُسۡوَدّٗا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ ١٧
When good tidings is brought to one of them of [the birth of] what he sets up as a likeness to [Allāh] the Most-Gracious, his face darkens, and he is filled with inward grief!
43:18
أَوَمَن يُنَشَّؤُاْ فِي ٱلۡحِلۡيَةِ وَهُوَ فِي ٱلۡخِصَامِ غَيۡرُ مُبِينٖ ١٨
Should then one raised up in ornaments and unable to give a clear account in a dispute [be associated with Allāh]?
43:19
وَجَعَلُواْ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عِبَٰدُ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ إِنَٰثًاۚ أَشَهِدُواْ خَلۡقَهُمۡۚ سَتُكۡتَبُ شَهَٰدَتُهُمۡ وَيُسۡـَٔلُونَ ١٩
And they make into females angels who are servants of the Most-Gracious. Did they witness their creation? Their evidence will be recorded, and they will be called to account!
43:20
وَقَالُواْ لَوۡ شَآءَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ مَا عَبَدۡنَٰهُمۗ مَّا لَهُم بِذَٰلِكَ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِنۡ هُمۡ إِلَّا يَخۡرُصُونَ ٢٠
[“Ah!”] they say, “If it had been the Will of the Most-Gracious, We should not have worshipped such [deities]!” Of that, they have no knowledge! They do nothing but forge lies!
43:21
أَمۡ ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمۡ كِتَٰبٗا مِّن قَبۡلِهِۦ فَهُم بِهِۦ مُسۡتَمۡسِكُونَ ٢١
What! Have We given them a Book before this [Book], to which they are holding fast?
43:22
بَلۡ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا وَجَدۡنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا عَلَىٰٓ أُمَّةٖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَٰرِهِم مُّهۡتَدُونَ ٢٢
Nay! They [only] say: “We found our fathers following a certain faith, and we do guide ourselves by their footsteps.”
43:23
وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ فِي قَرۡيَةٖ مِّن نَّذِيرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتۡرَفُوهَآ إِنَّا وَجَدۡنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا عَلَىٰٓ أُمَّةٖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَٰرِهِم مُّقۡتَدُونَ ٢٣
Just in the same way, whenever We sent a Warner before you to any people, its chiefs enjoying easy life said: “We found our fathers following a [certain] faith, and we are certainly following in their footsteps.”
43:24
قَٰلَ أَوَلَوۡ جِئۡتُكُم بِأَهۡدَىٰ مِمَّا وَجَدتُّمۡ عَلَيۡهِ ءَابَآءَكُمۡۖ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا بِمَآ أُرۡسِلۡتُم بِهِۦ كَٰفِرُونَ ٢٤
He [the Warner] said: “What? Even if I brought you better guidance than that which you found your fathers following?” They said: “For us, we reject that which you [prophets] are sent with.”
43:25
فَٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡۖ فَٱنظُرۡ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٢٥
So, We exacted retribution from them: So see what was the fate of the disbelievers [of the Message]!
43:26
وَإِذۡ قَالَ إِبۡرَٰهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦٓ إِنَّنِي بَرَآءٞ مِّمَّا تَعۡبُدُونَ ٢٦
And [remember] when Ibrāhīmsaid to his father and his people: “I am clearof what you worship:
43:27
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِي فَطَرَنِي فَإِنَّهُۥ سَيَهۡدِينِ ٢٧
“[I worship] only Him who originated me, so He will certainly guide me.”
43:28
وَجَعَلَهَا كَلِمَةَۢ بَاقِيَةٗ فِي عَقِبِهِۦ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡجِعُونَ ٢٨
And he [Ibrāhīm] left it as a Word to endureamong those who came after him, that they may revert [to Allāh].
43:29
بَلۡ مَتَّعۡتُ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَرَسُولٞ مُّبِينٞ ٢٩
Yes, I have given the good things of this life to these [people] and their fathers, until the Truth came to them [at the hands of] a Messenger making things clear
43:30
وَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡحَقُّ قَالُواْ هَٰذَا سِحۡرٞ وَإِنَّا بِهِۦ كَٰفِرُونَ ٣٠
[But] when the Truth came to them, they said: “This is magic, and we do reject it.”
43:31
وَقَالُواْ لَوۡلَا نُزِّلَ هَٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡقَرۡيَتَيۡنِ عَظِيمٍ ٣١
[Also,] they said: “Why is not this Qur’ān sent down to a great man in either of the two [chief] towns?”
43:32
أَهُمۡ يَقۡسِمُونَ رَحۡمَتَ رَبِّكَۚ نَحۡنُ قَسَمۡنَا بَيۡنَهُم مَّعِيشَتَهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَاۚ وَرَفَعۡنَا بَعۡضَهُمۡ فَوۡقَ بَعۡضٖ دَرَجَٰتٖ لِّيَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُهُم بَعۡضٗا سُخۡرِيّٗاۗ وَرَحۡمَتُ رَبِّكَ خَيۡرٞ مِّمَّا يَجۡمَعُونَ ٣٢
Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of your Lord? It is We who portion out between them their livelihood in the life of [this] world: and We raise some of them above others in ranks, so that some may command work from others. But the Mercy of your Lord is better than the [wealth] which they amass.
43:33
وَلَوۡلَآ أَن يَكُونَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ لَّجَعَلۡنَا لِمَن يَكۡفُرُ بِٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ لِبُيُوتِهِمۡ سُقُفٗا مِّن فِضَّةٖ وَمَعَارِجَ عَلَيۡهَا يَظۡهَرُونَ ٣٣
And were it not that [all] people might become one nation,We could have provided for everyone, who rejects the Most-Gracious, silver roofs for their houses and [silver] stair-ways on which to go up,
43:34
وَلِبُيُوتِهِمۡ أَبۡوَٰبٗا وَسُرُرًا عَلَيۡهَا يَتَّكِـُٔونَ ٣٤
and [silver] doors to their houses, and couches [of silver] on which they could recline,
43:35
وَزُخۡرُفٗاۚ وَإِن كُلُّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمَّا مَتَٰعُ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَاۚ وَٱلۡأٓخِرَةُ عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ ٣٥
and [also] adornments of gold. But all this is nothing but for enjoyment in the present life:The Hereafter, in the sight of your Lord, is for the [God‐]fearing.
43:36
وَمَن يَعۡشُ عَن ذِكۡرِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ نُقَيِّضۡ لَهُۥ شَيۡطَٰنٗا فَهُوَ لَهُۥ قَرِينٞ ٣٦
If anyone is blind to the admonitionof the Most-Gracious, We appoint for him a satan to be his intimate companion.
43:37
وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَيَصُدُّونَهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَيَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّهُم مُّهۡتَدُونَ ٣٧
Such [satans] hinder them [others] from the Path [of Truth], while they think that they are being guided aright!
43:38
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَنَا قَالَ يَٰلَيۡتَ بَيۡنِي وَبَيۡنَكَ بُعۡدَ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقَيۡنِ فَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡقَرِينُ ٣٨
At length, when [such a person] comes to Us, he will say [to his evil companion]: “Would that between me and you were the distance between East and West!” Ah! How evil [indeed] is such a companion!
43:39
وَلَن يَنفَعَكُمُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ إِذ ظَّلَمۡتُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُشۡتَرِكُونَ ٣٩
When you [O Prophet] have done wrong, it will avail you nothing that Day, as you bothshall be partners in Punishment!
43:40
أَفَأَنتَ تُسۡمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ أَوۡ تَهۡدِي ٱلۡعُمۡيَ وَمَن كَانَ فِي ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٖ ٤٠
Can you then make the deaf hear, or give direction to the blind or to such as [wander] in manifest deviation?
43:41
فَإِمَّا نَذۡهَبَنَّ بِكَ فَإِنَّا مِنۡهُم مُّنتَقِمُونَ ٤١
Even if We take you [O Prophet] away, We shall be sure to exact retribution from them [the Rejecters],
43:42
أَوۡ نُرِيَنَّكَ ٱلَّذِي وَعَدۡنَٰهُمۡ فَإِنَّا عَلَيۡهِم مُّقۡتَدِرُونَ ٤٢
or shall We show you that which We have promised them: For, verily, We have power over them.
43:43
فَٱسۡتَمۡسِكۡ بِٱلَّذِيٓ أُوحِيَ إِلَيۡكَۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ ٤٣
So hold fast to the Revelation sent down to you [O Prophet]: verily, you are on a Straight Path.
43:44
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَذِكۡرٞ لَّكَ وَلِقَوۡمِكَۖ وَسَوۡفَ تُسۡـَٔلُونَ ٤٤
It [the Qur’ān] is indeed a Reminder for you and for your people; and soon shall you [all] be held accountable.
43:45
وَسۡـَٔلۡ مَنۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَآ أَجَعَلۡنَا مِن دُونِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ءَالِهَةٗ يُعۡبَدُونَ ٤٥
And question you [O Prophet] Our Messengers, whom We sent before you: did We appoint any deities other than the Most-Gracious, to be worshipped?
43:46
وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِيْهِۦ فَقَالَ إِنِّي رَسُولُ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٤٦
We did send Mūsāaforetime, with Our Signs, to the Pharaohand his chiefs: So he said, “I am the Messenger of the Sustainer of the Worlds.”
43:47
فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُم بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ إِذَا هُم مِّنۡهَا يَضۡحَكُونَ ٤٧
Yet when he [Mūsā] showed them Our Signs, behold, they laughed at them.
43:48
وَمَا نُرِيهِم مِّنۡ ءَايَةٍ إِلَّا هِيَ أَكۡبَرُ مِنۡ أُخۡتِهَاۖ وَأَخَذۡنَٰهُم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡجِعُونَ ٤٨
We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than the previous one, and We seized them with Punishment,in order that they might turn [to Us].
43:49
وَقَالُواْ يَٰٓأَيُّهَ ٱلسَّاحِرُ ٱدۡعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَ إِنَّنَا لَمُهۡتَدُونَ ٤٩
And they said [to Mūsā], “O You the magician! Pray to your Lord for us according to His covenant with you so that we may truly be guided.”
43:50
فَلَمَّا كَشَفۡنَا عَنۡهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابَ إِذَا هُمۡ يَنكُثُونَ ٥٠
But when We removed the Punishment from them, behold, they broke their word.
43:51
وَنَادَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنُ فِي قَوۡمِهِۦ قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ أَلَيۡسَ لِي مُلۡكُ مِصۡرَ وَهَٰذِهِ ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِيٓۖ أَفَلَا تُبۡصِرُونَ ٥١
And the Pharaoh proclaimed among his people, saying: “O My people! Does not the dominion of Egypt belong to me, [witness] these streams flowing underneath my [palace]? What! See you not then?
43:52
أَمۡ أَنَا۠ خَيۡرٞ مِّنۡ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِي هُوَ مَهِينٞ وَلَا يَكَادُ يُبِينُ ٥٢
“Am I not better than this [Mūsā], who is a contemptible [wretch] and can scarcely speak clearly?
43:53
فَلَوۡلَآ أُلۡقِيَ عَلَيۡهِ أَسۡوِرَةٞ مِّن ذَهَبٍ أَوۡ جَآءَ مَعَهُ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ مُقۡتَرِنِينَ ٥٣
“Then [if he was truthful] why are not gold bracelets sent down for him, or [why] come [not] with him angels, accompanying him in procession?”
43:54
فَٱسۡتَخَفَّ قَوۡمَهُۥ فَأَطَاعُوهُۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَوۡمٗا فَٰسِقِينَ ٥٤
Thus did he [the Pharaoh] make fools of his people, and they obeyed him. Truly they were a people given to transgression.
43:55
فَلَمَّآ ءَاسَفُونَا ٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡ فَأَغۡرَقۡنَٰهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ ٥٥
When at length they angered Us, We exacted retribution from them, and We drowned them all.
43:56
فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ سَلَفٗا وَمَثَلٗا لِّلۡأٓخِرِينَ ٥٦
So We made them [a people] of the past and an example to later [generations].
43:57
وَلَمَّا ضُرِبَ ٱبۡنُ مَرۡيَمَ مَثَلًا إِذَا قَوۡمُكَ مِنۡهُ يَصِدُّونَ ٥٧
When [‘Īsā] the son of Mariyamis held up as an example, behold your people turn away [in ridicule]!
43:58
وَقَالُوٓاْ ءَأَٰلِهَتُنَا خَيۡرٌ أَمۡ هُوَۚ مَا ضَرَبُوهُ لَكَ إِلَّا جَدَلَۢاۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمٌ خَصِمُونَ ٥٨
And they said, “Are our gods best, or he?”This they set forth to you only by way of disputation: yes, they are a contentious people.
43:59
إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا عَبۡدٌ أَنۡعَمۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ وَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ مَثَلٗا لِّبَنِيٓ إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ ٥٩
He [‘Īsā] was no more than a servant [of Allāh]: We granted Our favour to him, and We made him an example to the Children of Isrā’īl.
43:60
وَلَوۡ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلۡنَا مِنكُم مَّلَٰٓئِكَةٗ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ يَخۡلُفُونَ ٦٠
And if it were Our Will, We could make angels from amongst you, succeeding [each other] on the earth.
43:61
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَعِلۡمٞ لِّلسَّاعَةِ فَلَا تَمۡتَرُنَّ بِهَا وَٱتَّبِعُونِۚ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطٞ مُّسۡتَقِيمٞ ٦١
And he [‘Īsā] shall be a Sign [for the coming of] the Hour [of Judgement]: Therefore, have no doubt about the [Hour], and follow Me: this is a Straight Path.
43:62
وَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكُمُ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمۡ عَدُوّٞ مُّبِينٞ ٦٢
And let not the Shayṭān hinder you: for he is to you an enemy manifest.
43:63
وَلَمَّا جَآءَ عِيسَىٰ بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ قَالَ قَدۡ جِئۡتُكُم بِٱلۡحِكۡمَةِ وَلِأُبَيِّنَ لَكُم بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِي تَخۡتَلِفُونَ فِيهِۖ فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ٦٣
When ‘Īsā came with Clear [Signs], he said: “Now have I come to you with Wisdom, and in order to make clear to you some of the [things] about which you dispute: therefore fear Allāh and obey me.
43:64
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكُمۡ فَٱعۡبُدُوهُۚ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطٞ مُّسۡتَقِيمٞ ٦٤
“Allāh is my Sustainer and your Sustainer: so worship Him [alone]: this is a Straight Path.”
43:65
فَٱخۡتَلَفَ ٱلۡأَحۡزَابُ مِنۢ بَيۡنِهِمۡۖ فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ مِنۡ عَذَابِ يَوۡمٍ أَلِيمٍ ٦٥
But sects from among themselves fell into disagreement:so woe to the wrongdoers from the Punishment of a painful Day!
43:66
هَلۡ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ أَن تَأۡتِيَهُم بَغۡتَةٗ وَهُمۡ لَا يَشۡعُرُونَ ٦٦
Are they only waiting for The Hour— that it should come on them all of a sudden, while they perceive not?
43:67
ٱلۡأَخِلَّآءُ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بَعۡضُهُمۡ لِبَعۡضٍ عَدُوٌّ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ ٦٧
Friends on that Day will be foes of one another, except the [God‐]fearing.
43:68
يَٰعِبَادِ لَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَيۡكُمُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ وَلَآ أَنتُمۡ تَحۡزَنُونَ ٦٨
O My servants!No fear shall be on you today,nor shall you grieve,
43:69
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَكَانُواْ مُسۡلِمِينَ ٦٩
[you] who believed in Our Signs and submitted [to Us].
43:70
ٱدۡخُلُواْ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ أَنتُمۡ وَأَزۡوَٰجُكُمۡ تُحۡبَرُونَ ٧٠
Enter Paradise, you and your spouses, rejoicing, honoured.
43:71
يُطَافُ عَلَيۡهِم بِصِحَافٖ مِّن ذَهَبٖ وَأَكۡوَابٖۖ وَفِيهَا مَا تَشۡتَهِيهِ ٱلۡأَنفُسُ وَتَلَذُّ ٱلۡأَعۡيُنُۖ وَأَنتُمۡ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ ٧١
To them will be passed round, [large] dishes of gold and goblets: therein will be all that the souls could desire, all that the eyes could delight in: and you shall dwell therein forever.
43:72
وَتِلۡكَ ٱلۡجَنَّةُ ٱلَّتِيٓ أُورِثۡتُمُوهَا بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ٧٢
That is Paradise of which you are made inheritors for your [good] deeds [in life].
43:73
لَكُمۡ فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٞ كَثِيرَةٞ مِّنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ٧٣
You shall have therein abundance of fruits, from which you shall eat.
43:74
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ فِي عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدُونَ ٧٤
The sinners will be in the Punishment of Hell, to dwell therein forever:
43:75
لَا يُفَتَّرُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَهُمۡ فِيهِ مُبۡلِسُونَ ٧٥
Not at all will the [Punishment] be abated for them, and in despair will they be there overwhelmed.
43:76
وَمَا ظَلَمۡنَٰهُمۡ وَلَٰكِن كَانُواْ هُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٧٦
Not at all did We injustice to them: but it is they who have been the wrongdoers.
43:77
وَنَادَوۡاْ يَٰمَٰلِكُ لِيَقۡضِ عَلَيۡنَا رَبُّكَۖ قَالَ إِنَّكُم مَّٰكِثُونَ ٧٧
They will cry: “O Mālik!Would that your Lord put an end to us!” He will say, “Nay, you shall stay [here forever]!”
43:78
لَقَدۡ جِئۡنَٰكُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَكُمۡ لِلۡحَقِّ كَٰرِهُونَ ٧٨
Verily, We brought the Truth to you: but most of you have a hatred for Truth.
43:79
أَمۡ أَبۡرَمُوٓاْ أَمۡرٗا فَإِنَّا مُبۡرِمُونَ ٧٩
What! Have they [polytheists] settled some Plan [among themselves]? It is [only] We who do settle things.
43:80
أَمۡ يَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّا لَا نَسۡمَعُ سِرَّهُمۡ وَنَجۡوَىٰهُمۚ بَلَىٰ وَرُسُلُنَا لَدَيۡهِمۡ يَكۡتُبُونَ ٨٠
Or do they think that We hear not their secrets and their private counsels? Indeed [We do], and Our Messengersare by them recording [what they say and do].
43:81
قُلۡ إِن كَانَ لِلرَّحۡمَٰنِ وَلَدٞ فَأَنَا۠ أَوَّلُ ٱلۡعَٰبِدِينَ ٨١
Say [O Prophet]: “If the Most-Gracious had a son, I would be the first to worship [Allāh].”
43:82
سُبۡحَٰنَ رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ ٨٢
Glory to the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne!He is free from what they describe [Him] with!
43:83
فَذَرۡهُمۡ يَخُوضُواْ وَيَلۡعَبُواْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُواْ يَوۡمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ ٨٣
So leave them to indulge and play [with vanities] until they meet that Day of theirs,which they are promised.
43:84
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي فِي ٱلسَّمَآءِ إِلَٰهٞ وَفِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِلَٰهٞۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٨٤
It is He who is God in heaven and God on earth; and He is the Most-Wise, the All-Knowing.
43:85
وَتَبَارَكَ ٱلَّذِي لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا وَعِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلسَّاعَةِ وَإِلَيۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ٨٥
And exalted is He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all between them: With Him is the Knowledge of The Hour: And to Him shall you be returned.
43:86
وَلَا يَمۡلِكُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ ٱلشَّفَٰعَةَ إِلَّا مَن شَهِدَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَهُمۡ يَعۡلَمُونَ ٨٦
And those whom they invoke besides Allāh have no power of intercession [with Allāh]; except those who bear witness to the Truth and have knowledge.
43:87
وَلَئِن سَأَلۡتَهُم مَّنۡ خَلَقَهُمۡ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُۖ فَأَنَّىٰ يُؤۡفَكُونَ ٨٧
If you ask them [the Rejecters]: Who created them? They will certainly say: “Allāh!” How then are they deluded away [from the Truth]?
43:88
وَقِيلِهِۦ يَٰرَبِّ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوۡمٞ لَّا يُؤۡمِنُونَ ٨٨
[Allāh has knowledge of the [Prophet’s] wailing, “O My Lord! Truly, these are people who believe not!”
43:89
فَٱصۡفَحۡ عَنۡهُمۡ وَقُلۡ سَلَٰمٞۚ فَسَوۡفَ يَعۡلَمُونَ ٨٩
So pardon them, and say “Peace [to you]!” And soon shall they know [for sure]!
سُورَةُ الدُّخَانِ44. The Smoke
44:1
حمٓ ١
Ḥā-Mīm.
44:2
وَٱلۡكِتَٰبِ ٱلۡمُبِينِ ٢
[This is] the Book that makes [things] clear;
44:3
إِنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ فِي لَيۡلَةٖ مُّبَٰرَكَةٍۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ ٣
We sent it [the Qur’ān]down during a blessed night: for We wished to warn [people against Evil].
44:4
فِيهَا يُفۡرَقُ كُلُّ أَمۡرٍ حَكِيمٍ ٤
In that [night] is decided every affair of wisdom,
44:5
أَمۡرٗا مِّنۡ عِندِنَآۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرۡسِلِينَ ٥
By command from Us. For We [ever] sent [Messengers],
44:6
رَحۡمَةٗ مِّن رَّبِّكَۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٦
as a Mercy from your Lord; for He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
44:7
رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَآۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ ٧
[He is] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all things between them, if you have [an assured] faith.
44:8
لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحۡيِۦ وَيُمِيتُۖ رَبُّكُمۡ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ٨
There is no god but He: It is He who gives life and gives death — the Lord and Sustainer to you and your early ancestors.
44:9
بَلۡ هُمۡ فِي شَكّٖ يَلۡعَبُونَ ٩
But they [Rejecters of Truth] play about in doubt.
44:10
فَٱرۡتَقِبۡ يَوۡمَ تَأۡتِي ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٖ مُّبِينٖ ١٠
So wait you for the Day that the sky will bring forth a smoke manifest,
44:11
يَغۡشَى ٱلنَّاسَۖ هَٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ ١١
enveloping the people: This will be a painful Punishment.
44:12
رَّبَّنَا ٱكۡشِفۡ عَنَّا ٱلۡعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤۡمِنُونَ ١٢
[They will cry out:] “Our Lord! Remove the Punishment from us, for we [now] really believe!”
44:13
أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ وَقَدۡ جَآءَهُمۡ رَسُولٞ مُّبِينٞ ١٣
How shall they have admonition [when Punishment overtakes them], [seeing that] a Messenger explaining things clearly had [already] come to them,
44:14
ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوۡاْ عَنۡهُ وَقَالُواْ مُعَلَّمٞ مَّجۡنُونٌ ١٤
yet they turned away from him and said: “Tutored [by others], [a man] bewitched!”
44:15
إِنَّا كَاشِفُواْ ٱلۡعَذَابِ قَلِيلًاۚ إِنَّكُمۡ عَآئِدُونَ ١٥
We shall indeed remove the Punishment for a little while [but We know that] truly you [Rejecters of Truth] will revert [to your old ways].
44:16
يَوۡمَ نَبۡطِشُ ٱلۡبَطۡشَةَ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ ١٦
The day We shall lay hold of them with a great seizure:We shall indeed [then] exact Retribution!
44:17
وَلَقَدۡ فَتَنَّا قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَجَآءَهُمۡ رَسُولٞ كَرِيمٌ ١٧
We did, before them, test the people of the Pharaoh:there came to them a Messenger honourable,
44:18
أَنۡ أَدُّوٓاْ إِلَيَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِۖ إِنِّي لَكُمۡ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٞ ١٨
[telling them:] “Restore to me the servants of Allāh:I am to you a Messenger worthy of trust;
44:19
وَأَن لَّا تَعۡلُواْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۖ إِنِّيٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلۡطَٰنٖ مُّبِينٖ ١٩
“and be not arrogant as against Allāh: I have come to you with authority manifest.
44:20
وَإِنِّي عُذۡتُ بِرَبِّي وَرَبِّكُمۡ أَن تَرۡجُمُونِ ٢٠
“For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your stoning me.
44:21
وَإِن لَّمۡ تُؤۡمِنُواْ لِي فَٱعۡتَزِلُونِ ٢١
“If you believe me not, [at least] keep yourselves away from me.”
44:22
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوۡمٞ مُّجۡرِمُونَ ٢٢
[But they were aggressive:] so he [Mūsā] prayed to his Lord: “These are indeed a people given to sin.”
44:23
فَأَسۡرِ بِعِبَادِي لَيۡلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ ٢٣
[The reply came:] “March forth with My servantsby night: for you are sure to be pursued.
44:24
وَٱتۡرُكِ ٱلۡبَحۡرَ رَهۡوًاۖ إِنَّهُمۡ جُندٞ مُّغۡرَقُونَ ٢٤
“And leave the sea as a furrow [still, in dry state]: for they [Pharaoh’s people] are an army [destined] to be drowned.”
44:25
كَمۡ تَرَكُواْ مِن جَنَّٰتٖ وَعُيُونٖ ٢٥
How many were the orchards and springs they left behind,
44:26
وَزُرُوعٖ وَمَقَامٖ كَرِيمٖ ٢٦
and crops and noble abodes,
44:27
وَنَعۡمَةٖ كَانُواْ فِيهَا فَٰكِهِينَ ٢٧
and [Allāh’s] blessings which they were enjoying!
44:28
كَذَٰلِكَۖ وَأَوۡرَثۡنَٰهَا قَوۡمًا ءَاخَرِينَ ٢٨
Thus [was their end!] and We made other people inherit [those things]!
44:29
فَمَا بَكَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُنظَرِينَ ٢٩
And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite.
44:30
وَلَقَدۡ نَجَّيۡنَا بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡمُهِينِ ٣٠
We did deliver aforetime the Children of Isrā’īl from humiliating Punishment,
44:31
مِن فِرۡعَوۡنَۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ ٣١
inflicted by Pharaoh, for he was arrogant [even] among transgressors [of just limits].
44:32
وَلَقَدِ ٱخۡتَرۡنَٰهُمۡ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمٍ عَلَى ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٣٢
And We, knowingly, chose themaforetime above the nations,
44:33
وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَٰٓؤٞاْ مُّبِينٌ ٣٣
And We granted them Signs in which there was a manifest trial
44:34
إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ ٣٤
These [Quraysh] say indeed:
44:35
إِنۡ هِيَ إِلَّا مَوۡتَتُنَا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ ٣٥
“There is nothing but our first death, and we shall not be raised [again].
44:36
فَأۡتُواْ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ ٣٦
[They also say:] “So, bring [back] our forefathers, if you are truthful!”
44:37
أَهُمۡ خَيۡرٌ أَمۡ قَوۡمُ تُبَّعٖ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ مُجۡرِمِينَ ٣٧
What! Are they better than the people of Tubba‘and those who were before them? We destroyed them because they were given to sin.
44:38
وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ ٣٨
We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, merely in [idle] sport:
44:39
مَا خَلَقۡنَٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ ٣٩
We created them both only by Truth: but most of them know not.
44:40
إِنَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ مِيقَٰتُهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ ٤٠
Verily, the Day of Sorting Outis the time appointed for them all,
44:41
يَوۡمَ لَا يُغۡنِي مَوۡلًى عَن مَّوۡلٗى شَيۡـٔٗا وَلَا هُمۡ يُنصَرُونَ ٤١
the Day when no protector will avail his client anything, and they will not be helped,
44:42
إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ٤٢
except such as receive Allāh’s Mercy: for He is the Mighty, the Most-Merciful.
44:43
إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ ٤٣
Verily, the tree of Zaqqūm
44:44
طَعَامُ ٱلۡأَثِيمِ ٤٤
[will be] the food of the sinful,
44:45
كَٱلۡمُهۡلِ يَغۡلِي فِي ٱلۡبُطُونِ ٤٥
like molten tar, it will boil in [their] stomachs,
44:46
كَغَلۡيِ ٱلۡحَمِيمِ ٤٦
like the boiling of scalding water.
44:47
خُذُوهُ فَٱعۡتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ ٤٧
[A voice will proclaim:] “Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hell!
44:48
ثُمَّ صُبُّواْ فَوۡقَ رَأۡسِهِۦ مِنۡ عَذَابِ ٱلۡحَمِيمِ ٤٨
“Then pour over his head the Punishment of Boiling Water.”
44:49
ذُقۡ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡكَرِيمُ ٤٩
[He will be told:] “Taste you [this]! Truly you are the mighty, the full-of-honour!
44:50
إِنَّ هَٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمۡتَرُونَ ٥٠
“Truly, this is what you used to doubt!”
44:51
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي مَقَامٍ أَمِينٖ ٥١
As to the [God‐]fearing, [they will be] in a position secure,
44:52
فِي جَنَّٰتٖ وَعُيُونٖ ٥٢
in gardens and springs,
44:53
يَلۡبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٖ وَإِسۡتَبۡرَقٖ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ ٥٣
dressed in fine silk and in rich brocade, they will [sit] facing each other;
44:54
كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجۡنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٖ ٥٤
So [it will be]; and We shall wed them to maidens with beautiful, big and lustrous eyes.
44:55
يَدۡعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ ٥٥
There they will call for every kind of fruit, in security;
44:56
لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلۡمَوۡتَ إِلَّا ٱلۡمَوۡتَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ ٥٦
nor will they there [ever] taste death, except the first death [on earth]; and He [Allāh] will save them from the Punishment of Hell,
44:57
فَضۡلٗا مِّن رَّبِّكَۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ ٥٧
as a bounty from your Lord! That will be the Supreme Success!
44:58
فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرۡنَٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ ٥٨
Verily, We have made this [Qur’ān] easy, in your tongue, in order that they may receive admonition.
44:59
فَٱرۡتَقِبۡ إِنَّهُم مُّرۡتَقِبُونَ ٥٩
So wait you and watch; for they [too] are waiting.
سُورَةُ الجَاثِيَةِ45. Crouching
45:1
حمٓ ١
Ḥā-Mīm.
45:2
تَنزِيلُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡحَكِيمِ ٢
[This] revelation of the Book is from Allāh, the Mighty, the Most-Wise.
45:3
إِنَّ فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ٣
Verily, in the heavens and the earth are Signs for those who believe,
45:4
وَفِي خَلۡقِكُمۡ وَمَا يَبُثُّ مِن دَآبَّةٍ ءَايَٰتٞ لِّقَوۡمٖ يُوقِنُونَ ٤
and in the creation of yourselves and in the fact that animals He [Allāh] has [created and] scattered [through the earth], are Signs for those of assured Faith.
45:5
وَٱخۡتِلَٰفِ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ وَمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مِن رِّزۡقٖ فَأَحۡيَا بِهِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ مَوۡتِهَا وَتَصۡرِيفِ ٱلرِّيَٰحِ ءَايَٰتٞ لِّقَوۡمٖ يَعۡقِلُونَ ٥
And in the alternation of Night and Day, and the fact that Allāh sends down Sustenance from the sky,and revives therewith the earth after its death, and in the change of the [directions of the] winds are Signs for those who understand.
45:6
تِلۡكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱللَّهِ نَتۡلُوهَا عَلَيۡكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثِۭ بَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ وَءَايَٰتِهِۦ يُؤۡمِنُونَ ٦
These are Signs of Allāh, which We rehearse to you in Truth: Then in what [more] exposition, after Allāh and His Signs, will they believe?
45:7
وَيۡلٞ لِّكُلِّ أَفَّاكٍ أَثِيمٖ ٧
Woe to every [habitual] liar, given to sin.
45:8
يَسۡمَعُ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡهِ ثُمَّ يُصِرُّ مُسۡتَكۡبِرٗا كَأَن لَّمۡ يَسۡمَعۡهَاۖ فَبَشِّرۡهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٖ ٨
He hears the Signs [āyahs] of Allāh recited to him, yet is obstinately arrogant, as if he never heard them: so announce to him a Painful Punishment
45:9
وَإِذَا عَلِمَ مِنۡ ءَايَٰتِنَا شَيۡـًٔا ٱتَّخَذَهَا هُزُوًاۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ مُّهِينٞ ٩
And when he learns something of Our Signs [āyahs], he takes them in jest: for such there will be a humiliating Punishment.
45:10
مِّن وَرَآئِهِمۡ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَلَا يُغۡنِي عَنۡهُم مَّا كَسَبُواْ شَيۡـٔٗا وَلَا مَا ٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَوۡلِيَآءَۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ ١٠
Behind them is Hell: and of no profit to them is anything they earned, nor any guardians they may have taken to themselves besides Allāh [will help them]: for them is a grievous Punishment.
45:11
هَٰذَا هُدٗىۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ مِّن رِّجۡزٍ أَلِيمٌ ١١
This is [true] Guidance and for those who reject the Signs [āyahs] of their Lord, is the punishment of a painful calamity.
45:12
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡبَحۡرَ لِتَجۡرِيَ ٱلۡفُلۡكُ فِيهِ بِأَمۡرِهِۦ وَلِتَبۡتَغُواْ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ١٢
It is Allāh who has subjected the seas to you, so that ships may sail through them by His command, that you may seek of His bounty, and that you may by chance be grateful.
45:13
وَسَخَّرَ لَكُم مَّا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعٗا مِّنۡهُۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّقَوۡمٖ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ ١٣
And He has made subservient to you, as [a favour] from Him, all that is in the heavens and on earth: behold, in that are Signs indeed for those who ponder.
45:14
قُل لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ يَغۡفِرُواْ لِلَّذِينَ لَا يَرۡجُونَ أَيَّامَ ٱللَّهِ لِيَجۡزِيَ قَوۡمَۢا بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ ١٤
Tell those, who believe, to forgive those who do not hope [to see] Allāh’s Days.It is for Him to recompense [for good or ill, each] people according to what they have earned.
45:15
مَنۡ عَمِلَ صَٰلِحٗا فَلِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ وَمَنۡ أَسَآءَ فَعَلَيۡهَاۖ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمۡ تُرۡجَعُونَ ١٥
If anyone does a righteous deed, it is to his own [benefit]; and if he does evil, it is against [his own soul]. In the end, you [all] will be brought back to your Lord.
45:16
وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَا بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَٱلۡحُكۡمَ وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ وَرَزَقۡنَٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِ وَفَضَّلۡنَٰهُمۡ عَلَى ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ١٦
We did aforetime grant to the Children of Isrā’īlthe Scripture [Torah], the Wisdom, and Prophethood; and We gave them for Sustenance things wholesome; and We distinguished them over the [nations of the] worlds.
45:17
وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُم بَيِّنَٰتٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَمۡرِۖ فَمَا ٱخۡتَلَفُوٓاْ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡعِلۡمُ بَغۡيَۢا بَيۡنَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَقۡضِي بَيۡنَهُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ فِيمَا كَانُواْ فِيهِ يَخۡتَلِفُونَ ١٧
And We granted them Clear Signs in the matter [of Religion]: it was only after knowledge had been granted to them that they fell into dispute transgressing against one another. Verily, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection as to those matters in which they used to differ.
45:18
ثُمَّ جَعَلۡنَٰكَ عَلَىٰ شَرِيعَةٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَمۡرِ فَٱتَّبِعۡهَا وَلَا تَتَّبِعۡ أَهۡوَآءَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ ١٨
Then We put you on the [right] Way of Religion:so follow that [Way], and follow not the whims of those who know not.
45:19
إِنَّهُمۡ لَن يُغۡنُواْ عَنكَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيۡـٔٗاۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلِيَآءُ بَعۡضٖۖ وَٱللَّهُ وَلِيُّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ ١٩
They will be of no use to you in front of Allāh: it is the wrongdoers who [stand as] guardians of one another: while Allāh is the Guardian of the [God‐]fearing.
45:20
هَٰذَا بَصَٰٓئِرُ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدٗى وَرَحۡمَةٞ لِّقَوۡمٖ يُوقِنُونَ ٢٠
These are [enlightening] Proofs for people, and a Guidance and Mercy to those of assured Faith.
45:21
أَمۡ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱجۡتَرَحُواْ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ أَن نَّجۡعَلَهُمۡ كَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ سَوَآءٗ مَّحۡيَاهُمۡ وَمَمَاتُهُمۡۚ سَآءَ مَا يَحۡكُمُونَ ٢١
What! Do those who committed sins think that We shall equate them with those who believe and do righteous deeds, and that equal will be their life and their death? Ill [indeed] is the Judgement that they make.
45:22
وَخَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلِتُجۡزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفۡسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ وَهُمۡ لَا يُظۡلَمُونَ ٢٢
Allāh has created the heavens and the earth in Truth,and in order that each soul may get the recompense of what it has earned, and none of them shall be wronged.
45:23
أَفَرَءَيۡتَ مَنِ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَٰهَهُۥ هَوَىٰهُ وَأَضَلَّهُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمٖ وَخَتَمَ عَلَىٰ سَمۡعِهِۦ وَقَلۡبِهِۦ وَجَعَلَ عَلَىٰ بَصَرِهِۦ غِشَٰوَةٗ فَمَن يَهۡدِيهِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ٱللَّهِۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ٢٣
So, see you such a one who takes his own vain desire as his god? Allāh has [knowing him as such], left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart [understanding], and put a cover on his sight. Who, then, will guide him after Allāh [has denied him Guidance]? Will you not then receive admonition?
45:24
وَقَالُواْ مَا هِيَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنۡيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحۡيَا وَمَا يُهۡلِكُنَآ إِلَّا ٱلدَّهۡرُۚ وَمَا لَهُم بِذَٰلِكَ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِنۡ هُمۡ إِلَّا يَظُنُّونَ ٢٤
And they [polytheists] said: “There is nothing but our [present] life in this world. We shall die and we live [here only], and nothing but Time does destroy us.” Of that they have no knowledge, they merely conjecture,
45:25
وَإِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ءَايَٰتُنَا بَيِّنَٰتٖ مَّا كَانَ حُجَّتَهُمۡ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُواْ ٱئۡتُواْ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ ٢٥
and when Our Clear Signs [āyahs] are rehearsed to them, their argument is nothing but to say, “Bring [back] our forefathers, if you are truthful!”
45:26
قُلِ ٱللَّهُ يُحۡيِيكُمۡ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمۡ ثُمَّ يَجۡمَعُكُمۡ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ لَا رَيۡبَ فِيهِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ ٢٦
Say [O Prophet]: “It is Allāh who gives you life, then gives you death; then He will gather you together for the Day of Resurrection about which there is no doubt:” but most people know not.
45:27
وَلِلَّهِ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَيَوۡمَ تَقُومُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَخۡسَرُ ٱلۡمُبۡطِلُونَ ٢٧
To Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and the Day when The Hour [of Judgement] will be established, that Day the followers of Falsehood will stand to lose!
45:28
وَتَرَىٰ كُلَّ أُمَّةٖ جَاثِيَةٗۚ كُلُّ أُمَّةٖ تُدۡعَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ كِتَٰبِهَا ٱلۡيَوۡمَ تُجۡزَوۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ٢٨
And you will see [then] every nationon its knees: every nation will be called to its Record [and told:] “This Day shall you be recompensed for all that you did!
45:29
هَٰذَا كِتَٰبُنَا يَنطِقُ عَلَيۡكُم بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا نَسۡتَنسِخُ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ٢٩
“This Our Record speaks about you with Truth: for We recorded all that you did.”
45:30
فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ فَيُدۡخِلُهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ فِي رَحۡمَتِهِۦۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡمُبِينُ ٣٠
Then, as to those who believed and did righteous deeds, their Lord will admit them to His Mercy: that will be the manifest success.
45:31
وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ أَفَلَمۡ تَكُنۡ ءَايَٰتِي تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡكُمۡ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرۡتُمۡ وَكُنتُمۡ قَوۡمٗا مُّجۡرِمِينَ ٣١
But as to those who rejected [Allāh; to them it will be said:] “Were not Our Signs rehearsed to you? But you were arrogant, and you were a people given to sin!
45:32
وَإِذَا قِيلَ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقّٞ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ لَا رَيۡبَ فِيهَا قُلۡتُم مَّا نَدۡرِي مَا ٱلسَّاعَةُ إِن نَّظُنُّ إِلَّا ظَنّٗا وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُسۡتَيۡقِنِينَ ٣٢
“And when it was said that the promise of Allāh is true, and that there is no doubt about [the coming of] The Hour,you used to say, ‘We know not what is the Hour: We only think it is a conjecture, and we have no firm assurance.’”
45:33
وَبَدَا لَهُمۡ سَيِّـَٔاتُ مَا عَمِلُواْ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ٣٣
Then will appear to them the evil that they did, and they will be hemmed in by that which they used to mock!
45:34
وَقِيلَ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ نَنسَىٰكُمۡ كَمَا نَسِيتُمۡ لِقَآءَ يَوۡمِكُمۡ هَٰذَا وَمَأۡوَىٰكُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن نَّٰصِرِينَ ٣٤
It will be said [to them]: “This Day We will forget you as you forgot the meeting of this Day of yours! And the Fire is your [eternal] abode, and no helpers will you have!
45:35
ذَٰلِكُم بِأَنَّكُمُ ٱتَّخَذۡتُمۡ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ هُزُوٗا وَغَرَّتۡكُمُ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡيَاۚ فَٱلۡيَوۡمَ لَا يُخۡرَجُونَ مِنۡهَا وَلَا هُمۡ يُسۡتَعۡتَبُونَ ٣٥
“This is because you took the Signs of Allāh in jest, and the life of the world deceived you!” [From] this Day, therefore, they shall not be taken out thence [Hell], nor shall they be asked to repent.
45:36
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَرَبِّ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٣٦
So Praise be to Allāh, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, and Lord of the worlds!
45:37
وَلَهُ ٱلۡكِبۡرِيَآءُ فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ ٣٧
And unto Him [alone] belongs Majestyin the heavens and on the earth: and He is the Mighty, the Most-Wise!
