69:1
ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ ١
The Sure Reality!
69:2
مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ ٢
What is the Sure Reality?
69:3
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ ٣
And what will make you realise what is the Sure Reality?
69:4
كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ وَعَادُۢ بِٱلۡقَارِعَةِ ٤
The Thamūdand the ‘Ād peopledisbelieved the Knocker!
69:5
فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ ٥
As for the Thamūd,they were annihilated by a terrible storm [of thunder and lightning]!
69:6
وَأَمَّا عَادٞ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِرِيحٖ صَرۡصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٖ ٦
And as for the ‘Ād,they were annihilated by a violent cold wind;
69:7
سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ سَبۡعَ لَيَالٖ وَثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومٗاۖ فَتَرَى ٱلۡقَوۡمَ فِيهَا صَرۡعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٍ خَاوِيَةٖ ٧
He [Allāh] made it rage against them for seven consecutive nights and eight days: so you could see the [whole] people scattered [dead], thrown down as if they were trunk of hollow palm-trees!
69:8
فَهَلۡ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٖ ٨
So do you see any of them left surviving?
69:9
وَجَآءَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَمَن قَبۡلَهُۥ وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَٰتُ بِٱلۡخَاطِئَةِ ٩
And the Pharaoh,and those before him, and the Towns Overturned,committed habitual sin,
69:10
فَعَصَوۡاْ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَخَذَهُمۡ أَخۡذَةٗ رَّابِيَةً ١٠
and [each] disobeyed the Messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with an excessive seizure.
69:11
إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلۡمَآءُ حَمَلۡنَٰكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡجَارِيَةِ ١١
We, when the water [of Nūḥ’sFlood] overflowed [beyond limits], carried you [Mankind], in the floating [Ark],
69:12
لِنَجۡعَلَهَا لَكُمۡ تَذۡكِرَةٗ وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٞ وَٰعِيَةٞ ١٢
that We might make it a Reminder unto you, and that ears [that would hear the story] should bear its [lessons] in remembrance.
69:13
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِ نَفۡخَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ ١٣
Then, when the Trumpet is blown once,
69:14
وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَٱلۡجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ ١٤
and the earth and the mountains are moved, and they are smashed in one go.
69:15
فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ ١٥
On that Day shall the [Great] Eventtake place.
69:16
وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِيَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ وَاهِيَةٞ ١٦
And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy,
69:17
وَٱلۡمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرۡجَآئِهَاۚ وَيَحۡمِلُ عَرۡشَ رَبِّكَ فَوۡقَهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ ثَمَٰنِيَةٞ ١٧
And the angels will be on its sides, and that Day eight [angels] will bear the Throneof your Lord above them.
69:18
يَوۡمَئِذٖ تُعۡرَضُونَ لَا تَخۡفَىٰ مِنكُمۡ خَافِيَةٞ ١٨
That Day shall you [all] be brought [for Judgement]: Nothing of yours will be hidden.
69:19
فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقۡرَءُواْ كِتَٰبِيَهۡ ١٩
Then he that will be given his Record in his right handwill say: “Ah here! Read you my Record!
69:20
إِنِّي ظَنَنتُ أَنِّي مُلَٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهۡ ٢٠
“I did think that [one day] I will face my account!”
69:21
فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٖ رَّاضِيَةٖ ٢١
And he will be in a life of Bliss,
69:22
فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٖ ٢٢
in an elevated Garden,
69:23
قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٞ ٢٣
whose Fruits [will hang] low and near.
69:24
كُلُواْ وَٱشۡرَبُواْ هَنِيٓـَٔۢا بِمَآ أَسۡلَفۡتُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَيَّامِ ٱلۡخَالِيَةِ ٢٤
[They will be told:] “Eat you and drink, with full satisfaction; because of the [good deeds] that you did earlier, in the days that are gone!”
69:25
وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي لَمۡ أُوتَ كِتَٰبِيَهۡ ٢٥
As for the one who will be given his Record in his left hand,he will say: “Ah! would that my Record had not been given to me!
69:26
وَلَمۡ أَدۡرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهۡ ٢٦
“And [would] that I had never come to know what my account was!
69:27
يَٰلَيۡتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلۡقَاضِيَةَ ٢٧
“Ah! Would that [Death] would have been my [final] end!
69:28
مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنِّي مَالِيَهۡۜ ٢٨
“Of no profit to me has been my wealth!
69:29
هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلۡطَٰنِيَهۡ ٢٩
“My power has perished from me!”
69:30
خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ ٣٠
[A command will say:] “Seize you him, and bind him,
69:31
ثُمَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ ٣١
“And then burn you him in the Blazing Fire.
69:32
ثُمَّ فِي سِلۡسِلَةٖ ذَرۡعُهَا سَبۡعُونَ ذِرَاعٗا فَٱسۡلُكُوهُ ٣٢
“Further, bind him in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits!
69:33
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٣٣
“This was he that would not believe in Allāh, the Supreme [in Glory].
69:34
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ ٣٤
“And would not encourage [each other] the feeding of the indigent!
69:35
فَلَيۡسَ لَهُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ هَٰهُنَا حَمِيمٞ ٣٥
“So no intimate friend has he here this Day.
69:36
وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنۡ غِسۡلِينٖ ٣٦
“Nor has he any food except pus from the washing of wounds,
69:37
لَّا يَأۡكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡخَٰطِـُٔونَ ٣٧
“Which none do eat but the sinners.”
69:38
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَا تُبۡصِرُونَ ٣٨
So I do swear by what you see,
69:39
وَمَا لَا تُبۡصِرُونَ ٣٩
and what you see not,
69:40
إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلُ رَسُولٖ كَرِيمٖ ٤٠
[that] this indeed is the word of an honorable Messenger;
69:41
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوۡلِ شَاعِرٖۚ قَلِيلٗا مَّا تُؤۡمِنُونَ ٤١
It is not the word of a poet. Little it is you believe!
69:42
وَلَا بِقَوۡلِ كَاهِنٖۚ قَلِيلٗا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ ٤٢
Nor is it the word of a soothsayer. Little admonition it is you receive.
69:43
تَنزِيلٞ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٤٣
[It is] a Message sent down from the Lord-of-the-Worlds.
69:44
وَلَوۡ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيۡنَا بَعۡضَ ٱلۡأَقَاوِيلِ ٤٤
And if he [the Messenger] had forged any sayings in Our name,
69:45
لَأَخَذۡنَا مِنۡهُ بِٱلۡيَمِينِ ٤٥
We would certainly had seized him by his right hand,
69:46
ثُمَّ لَقَطَعۡنَا مِنۡهُ ٱلۡوَتِينَ ٤٦
and We would certainly then had cut off his aorta:
69:47
فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنۡ أَحَدٍ عَنۡهُ حَٰجِزِينَ ٤٧
And none of you could have withheld him [from Our wrath].
69:48
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذۡكِرَةٞ لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ ٤٨
Verily, this is a Reminder for the [God‐]fearing.
69:49
وَإِنَّا لَنَعۡلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ ٤٩
And We certainly know that there are disbelievers amongst you.
69:50
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسۡرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ ٥٠
But truly [this Revelation] will be a cause of regret for the Rejecters [on the Day of Judgement].
69:51
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلۡيَقِينِ ٥١
Verily, it is the Truth of assured certainty.
69:52
فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٥٢
So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme [in Glory].
