It is He who sent amongst the unlettered1a Messenger from among themselves, to rehearse to them His Signs, to purify them, and to instruct them in the Book and in Wisdom, although earlier they had been in manifest deviation;
The simile of those who were entrusted with the [obligations of] the Torah,1but who failed in those [obligations], is that of a donkey which carries huge tomes [but understands them not]. Evil is the simile of people who disbelieve the Signs of Allāh: And Allāh guides not the people given to wrongdoing.
Say [O Prophet]: “O You Jews! If you think that you are friends to Allāh, to the exclusion of [other] people, then desire death, if you are truthful!”
Say [O Prophet]: “The death from which you flee will truly overtake you: then you will be sent back to the Knower-of-all-Things-Secret-and-Open, and He will tell you all that you did!”
O You who believe! When the call is proclaimed for prayer on Friday [the Day of Congregation], hasten earnestly to the remembrance of Allāh, and leave off business: that is best for you if you but know!
And when the prayer is finished, then disperse through the land, and seek of the Bounty of Allāh: and remember Allāh frequently that you may prosper.
When they see some trade or pastime,1they disperse headlong to it, and leave you standing. Say: “That which Allāh has is better than any pastime or bargain! And Allāh is the Best-of-Sustainers.”
