The Backbiter
104:1
وَيۡلٞ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٖ لُّمَزَةٍ ١
Woe to every backbiter and slanderer,
104:2
ٱلَّذِي جَمَعَ مَالٗا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ ٢
who piles up wealth and keeps counting it,
104:3
يَحۡسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخۡلَدَهُۥ ٣
thinking that his wealth would make him immortal!
104:4
كـَلَّاۖ لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِي ٱلۡحُطَمَةِ ٤
Never! He will sure be thrown into [Hell] which smashes to pieces.
104:5
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡحُطَمَةُ ٥
And what will explain to you that which smashes to pieces?
104:6
نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُوقَدَةُ ٦
[It is] the Fire of Allāh, kindled [to a blaze],
104:7
ٱلَّتِي تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلۡأَفۡـِٔدَةِ ٧
which does mount [right] to the hearts.
104:8
إِنَّهَا عَلَيۡهِم مُّؤۡصَدَةٞ ٨
It shall be made into a vault over them,
104:9
فِي عَمَدٖ مُّمَدَّدَةِۭ ٩
in columns outstretched.
